Its activities are highly diversified and its performances always leave an admiring audience. In this stunning recording, the orchestra is guided by two different conductors: Pavel Sorokin and Ilmar Lapinsch. Apart from his work as symphony conductor, Pavel Sorokin is also one of the leading conductors of the Bolshoi. In 1998 Pavel Sorokin was awarded the title »Merited Artist of Russia«. The Austrian-Latvian Conductor Ilmar Lapinsch conducts Brahm’s Symphony No.2. Lapinsch’s passion for the works of Brahms dates back to his adolescence. Since then, Brahms has accompanied this extraordinary artist throughout his career and the recording in hand perfectly demonstrates Lapinsch’s intensive analysis of this complex piece of music. The recordings for this DVD took place in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, famous for its unique acoustics, in Spring 2002 and it presents artistic and technical quality at the highest level. Apart from thrilling concert recordings, the DVD offers additional highlights: camera positions can be selected by the viewer, i.e. he himself decides if he wants to see the soloist, the conductor, the edited version or even all angles at the same time.
